Process
We’re committed to providing an in-depth approach to supporting your child's communication development. From a speech and language screening to a formal evaluation and personalized therapy sessions, our services are designed to meet the unique needs of each child, with a focus on family involvement and evidence-based practices.
1. Speech & Language Screening
Westside Speech Therapy offers 30-minute screenings to provide an initial understanding of your child’s speech and language needs. During this screening, we will discuss your concerns and observe your child’s speech and communication abilities to determine if further evaluation is needed.
2. Comprehensive Speech & Language Evaluation
If the screening indicates the need for a more in-depth assessment, we offer a 60-90 minute evaluation. This evaluation includes a thorough review of your child’s medical history, educational history, a discussion of your specific concerns, and specialized formal testing. The evaluation assesses various areas, such as:
Speech clarity and articulation
Oral motor abilities
Receptive language (what your child understands)
Expressive language (how your child communicates)
Vocabulary development
Speech fluency
Social communication (pragmatics)
The results of this evaluation will guide the creation of a personalized therapy plan.
3. Speech Therapy Sessions
Based on the results of the evaluation, we develop an individualized therapy program tailored to your child’s specific needs. Therapy sessions are engaging and include activities designed to improve targeted skills, whether through play-based exploration or focused tasks.
We strongly encourage parent involvement, and caregivers are welcome to observe sessions and participate in the therapy process. Our therapy services cover a range of communication challenges, including:
Articulation & phonological disorders
Receptive/expressive language delays and disorders
Pragmatic (social) language difficulties
